House appropriators may not advance legislation that would provide $25.5 billion in fiscal 2026 funding for food, drug, and agriculture programs until after they return from a week-long recess on June 23.
The legislation would provide $21.9 billion for the US Agriculture Department and $6.8 billion for the Food and Drug Administration.
The funding measure, 4.2% less than enacted levels, hasn’t advanced out of the House Appropriations Committee. The panel began marking up the bill Wednesday morning, but set aside the legislation early Thursday ahead of a defense spending markup due to start several hours later.
