President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration in Washington, DC, is coming to an end today — and there’s little appetite among Congressional Republicans to extend the president’s unprecedented takeover.

Federal law allowed Trump to seize control of the district’s police force for 30 days under his emergency order. Congress would have needed to vote to extend that time frame — and such a measure would need 60 votes in the Senate.
