GOP Plans April Start for California Air Pollution Waiver Repeal

Senate Republicans plan to introduce a measure by the end of April revoking Biden-era authority that allowed California to adopt stricter emissions standards for cars and trucks.

Environment and Public Works Chair Shelley Moore Capito said Wednesday she would lead an effort to gut the so-called California waiver for emissions standards under the Congressional Review Act. Republican lawmakers have used the CRA frequently since January to roll back several clean energy rules put in place during the Biden administration.

“We are pursuing that angle and hopefully we’ll be successful,” Capito (R-W.Va.) told reporters. “It will make a big difference.”
