Top Republicans in charge of tax legislation are preparing to pass major parts of the GOP agenda through the budget reconciliation process, a maneuver to circumvent the Senate filibuster, in the hopes they’ll win the House, Senate, and presidency in Tuesday’s elections.
GOP members of the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means committees met last week to discuss a possible reconciliation package, a House Republican aide said. That followed a recent meeting among Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.), and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.).
