Lawmakers have a rough plan to avoid a shutdown at the end of next week, but they’re running short on time.
They’ve made progress on the other big end-of-year package, releasing an agreement on the defense authorization bill Saturday night that’s set for a House vote this week (more on that below).
Government funding expires Dec. 20, and negotiators said they’ll probably use a continuing resolution to keep agencies running into March. They’ll tack on a disaster aid package, probably somewhere south of President Joe Biden’s requested $115 billion.
