Diplomatic talks with the US over Greenland have been complicated by Denmark’s lack of a mandated government, according to the island’s prime minister.

The dialog has taken “some steps in the right direction,” Jens-Frederik Nielsen said at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit on Tuesday, pointing to a de-escalation in rhetoric and a shift toward “talking respectfully to each other.” The ongoing talks are broadly focused on regional security, he said, declining to provide specifics.
