Health Care Consolidation Targeted by Republicans in Hearing

Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee interrogated drug supply chain industry group leaders on Wednesday, with a focus on the potential of breaking up the consolidated health care system, and particularly pharmacy benefit managers.

In a notable exchange, Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee Chair Morgan Griffith (R-Va.), asked David Marin, president and CEO of the PBM lobby group, Pharmaceutical Care Management Association, his thoughts on market competition.

“If you like competition, do you think the Federal Trade Commission should break up the three biggest PBMs that control 80% of the market?” asked Griffith.
