Health insurance executives are heading to Capitol Hill Thursday for back-to-back hearings to address questions about rising health costs and what should be done about them.
Insurers have been roped into the larger health care debate on Capitol Hill, with Republicans arguing they profited from temporary changes to Affordable Care Act tax credits. Implemented in 2021, the changes made them more generous and allowed enrollees to benefit from the assistance regardless of income, but they expired at the end of 2025. Congress has been haggling over whether to extend them now that enrollees face skyrocketing premiums.
