HHS Appropriations Bill Gives $117 Billion to Health Agency (1)

A funding measure for the US Department of Health and Human Services provides $116.6 billion, according to a summary released by House Appropriations Chair Tom Cole (R-Okla).

House Republican Appropriations lawmakers said the funding number reduces spending by $100 million at the health agency. Senate Democrats said they staved off over $33 billion in proposed cuts to HHS and a 40% proposed cut to the National Institutes of Health.

Appropriators allocated $49 billion for the National Institutes of Health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would receive $9.2 billion. Community health centers has $1.9 billion earmarked in funding.
