Federal Highway Administration Administrator Sean McMaster faced questions about delayed bridge and highway projects at a Senate hearing Wednesday.
McMaster said the FHWA has obligated roughly $8.4 billion for competitive grants in this administration. He testified about the agency’s proposed fiscal 2027 budget request at a hearing before the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee.
He said 53% of the over 3,200 backlogged projects at the Transportation Department, all inherited by the administration, now have committed funding.
Regardless, several committee members pressed McMaster on pending projects.
