Hochul to Announce Expansion of Robotaxis Outside New York City

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul will announce a plan Tuesday that would allow autonomous vehicles to operate outside of New York City, according to two sources familiar with the proposal who spoke with Bloomberg Government.

Hochul (D) will propose a system enabling commercial self-driving cars in upstate cities during her State of the State address, according to the sources. The move would allow companies such as Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo to bring fully self-driving cars to consumers upstate for commercial trips.

Full details will be released when Hochul releases her finalized budget proposal Jan. 20.
