Hollywood’s Clash Over AI Spurs New California Transparency Bill

California actors and other entertainment workers want to build on a first-in-the-nation AI transparency law to gain more information about whether the models use their copyrighted work, such as their voice recordings or drawings.

New state legislation (AB 412) would force AI developers to provide copyright owners documentation when their content is used to train the technology. The requirements would address artists’ longstanding complaints over competing against AI that also can produce art based on their protected work, supporters said.
