Immigrants’ rights advocates are going to federal court to challenge the Department of Homeland Security’s dismantling of three offices focused on oversight and civil rights.
The nonprofits Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, Southern Border Communities Coalition, and Urban Justice Center filed suit Thursday accusing DHS of violating the Constitution and federal law by torpedoing its Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, and other teams, last month.
The lawsuit is the latest effort to use federal courts to challenge the Trump administration’s efforts to shrink federal agencies and sideline oversight.
