Homeland Funding Gavel Has Fresh Appeal Ahead of Trump’s Return

Congress is poised for unusual stability and experience among homeland security funding negotiators next session as all four top appropriators express a desire to stay in their roles.

Reps. Mark Amodei (R-Nev.), Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.) and Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Katie Britt (R-Ala.) all said Tuesday they want to retain their roles hashing out one of the toughest annual government funding bills. Amodei is the current chairman of the Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee in the House, while Underwood is ranking member. Murphy leads the Senate subcommittee, where Britt is the top Republican.
