House Advances Russia, Ukraine Vote in End-Run Around Speaker

Six House Republicans on Wednesday crossed the aisle to dislodge a vote on aid to Ukraine and sanctions on Russia, adding to a string of victories by House Democrats through formerly little-used discharge petitions during the 119th Congress.

The motion to discharge, which was adopted 218-214, will tee up a rule vote Thursday that’s expected to advance, allowing the House to take up the underlying Ukraine vote that night.
