House Republican appropriators advanced a spending bill Thursday that slashes funding for the Government Accountability Office, a watchdog agency that has been investigating and clashing with the Trump administration.
The House’s fiscal 2026 legislative branch spending bill would fund Congress and related agencies at a topline level of $6.7 billion, about $51 million less than enacted for fiscal 2025, according to committee Republicans’ summary. It was approved on a party line vote of 34-28.
The GAO would receive $415.4 million under the legislation, $396.5 million less than the level enacted for fiscal 2025.
