House Armed Services Panel Backs ‘Department of War’ Name Change

The House Armed Services Committee late Thursday night narrowly backed the formal renaming of the Department of Defense to the Department of War, handing a victory to President Donald Trump and Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The amendment to rename the department, sponsored by Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), was the last to be adopted during the marathon consideration of the $1.15 trillion fiscal year 2027 defense authorization bill.
