House Cancels Funding Votes, Shifts Focus to Campaign Trail

House Republican leaders canceled planned votes on the week of July 29, putting off work on government-funding bills as lawmakers shift their focus to the campaign trail.

Appropriations Committee members had previously said they planned to vote on their Agriculture-FDA and Financial Services spending bills next week. But leaders canceled those votes, planning instead to leave early for August recess and return the week of Sept. 9. The decision casts doubt on any further votes on the House’s partisan spending bills. Members are still scheduled to vote on their Interior-Environment funding bill Wednesday evening.
