Gonzales’ Alleged Affair Draws Ethics Probe Ahead of Runoff

The House Ethics Committee will establish a subcommittee to investigate Rep. Tony Gonzales as the Texas Republican heads toward a competitive runoff election to hold his seat.

The panel will look into whether Gonzales “(1) engaged in sexual misconduct towards an individual employed in his congressional office; and/or (2) discriminated unfairly by dispensing special favors or privileges,” committee leaders said in a statement. Gonzales has been under fire from members of his own party after a staffer he allegedly had an affair with died by suicide last year.
