House FISA Bill in Flux as GOP Leaders Work to Secure Votes (2)

The House postponed votes on reauthorizing a controversial US spy powers law until Thursday at the earliest as leadership continues to negotiate with conservatives who are seeking policy changes.

The chamber was originally slated to begin consideration of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Wednesday, but leadership signaled throughout the day that it may slip as negotiations continued with hardliners. Votes were officially canceled for the night in a GOP whip notice Wednesday afternoon.

The intelligence tool will lapse early next week without congressional action to renew it before the April 20 deadline.
