A leading House conservative group proposed a $4 trillion increase to the debt limit tied to a two-track reconciliation process opposed by the chamber’s Republican leaders.

The House Freedom Caucus released its proposal Friday morning outlining a series of spending cuts paired with new spending targeted toward the southern border and defense.

The debt ceiling increase would rely on a “commitment” from congressional leaders to secure spending cuts not only through the reconciliation process but through the federal appropriations process as well.
