House Republicans advanced a $47.3 billion bill funding the Department of State and national security programs Tuesday that continues President Donald Trump’s efforts to cut foreign aid programs.
The House Appropriations Committee voted 35-27 along party lines to advance the National Security-State bill, one of 12 annual funding bills House Republican appropriators are looking to finish by the end of June. The committee vote sets up for an eventual full vote for approval on the House floor.
Democrats took issue with the bill’s spending cuts toward international organizations, noting Trump’s unilateral cuts to foreign aid and health programs.
