House Republicans approved changes to their sprawling tax and spending reconciliation bill aimed at ensuring the package complies with the Senate’s budget rules.
GOP lawmakers struck language targeting an energy assistance program along with biofuel provisions. They also removed a provision that would have allowed mining in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters. Republicans additionally eliminated some language about Medicaid provisions related to the Social Security Act. A small amount of new funding for the Pentagon was also nixed.
Including those provisions could have made the bill subject to a filibuster in the Senate.
