House GOP Decides Vote on DC National Emergency is Unnecessary

The GOP-led House won’t vote to extend President Donald Trump’s police takeover of Washington this week because “it’s not necessary,” Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said Monday.

“The mayor has invited the National Guard to remain indefinitely, is my understanding,” Johnson told reporters, adding that “we’ve not received a request or of a necessity for Congress to act.” The speaker’s remarks come in the final days of Trump’s month-long emergency declaration in the capital.
