House GOP Defense Panel Rejects Funds for Two Attack Subs (1)

A Republican-led defense spending panel is siding with the US Navy’s request to build only one Virginia-class submarine in fiscal 2025, despite a bipartisan push to boost funding for two subs a year.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are incensed over the Pentagon’s decision to request funding for only one sub next year made by General Dynamics Corp. and HII. The spending bill released Tuesday by the House Appropriations Defense panel will prompt a battle across party lines and congressional chambers to boost funding for the submarine program.
