House Republicans are creating a panel to investigate “the events preceding and following” the Jan. 6 insurrection, doubling down on the controversy after President Donald Trump’s blanket pardon of rioters.
Led by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), the Judiciary select subcommittee will offer a venue for Republicans to continue their campaign against House Democrats’ initial Jan. 6 committee, which accused Trump of inciting the 2021 Capitol attacks. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said Republicans are “proud of our work so far in exposing the false narratives peddled by the politically motivated” panel formed under then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
