House GOP Hardliners Push Back on Emerging Spy Powers Agreement

House conservatives pushed back on an emerging bipartisan Senate plan to renew an expiring US spy powers tool over frustration with the length of a ban on a central bank digital currency, a policy measure hardliners have demanded be included to earn their support.

Several members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus and their allies told Bloomberg Government they want a permanent ban of a CBDC in any deal to reauthorize Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, rather than the three-year ban that’s part of the plan circulating in the Senate that has not yet been publicly released. ...
