House GOP Leaders Rushing to Rescue Student-Athlete Pay Bill

House Republicans are trying to rally the votes necessary to advance legislation that would codify rules for paying student-athletes and NCAA antitrust protections after members of both parties rebelled against the bill.

GOP leadership canceled plans Wednesday afternoon to vote on the SCORE Act (H.R. 4312), which would govern collegiate athletes’ ability to enter into name, image, and likeness agreements and receive compensation from their schools.

“We’re still talking to members right now,” said House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) late Wednesday. “We’re narrowing that down, by the way, and getting more people coming over.”
