House Leaders Plan Wednesday Stopgap Vote Despite GOP Opposition

The House will vote Wednesday on a six-month stopgap with a controversial election rider, Speaker Mike Johnson announced.

Johnson (R-La.) pulled the bill from the floor last week after opposition within his party threatened to tank it. It’s still likely to fail with multiple Republicans publicly opposed and almost all Democrats expected to vote no.

“Congress has an immediate obligation to do two things: responsibly fund the federal government and ensure the security of our elections,” Johnson said in a statement Tuesday.
