Looming DHS Shutdown Hits US Lawmakers’ Munich Travel Plans (2)

House lawmakers’ official congressional trips to the Munich Security Conference will be scuttled by a likely Department of Homeland Security shutdown this weekend, but some senators still plan to go.

“Whenever there’s a shutdown, there’s a standing rule that’s been in place for a long time that there are no CODELs during that period,” House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) said of so-called congressional delegation trips.

House Armed Services Chairman Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) said he was planning to attend the Munich event, but the “speaker’s not letting anyone leave on CODELs.”
