House members will get more money for personal security as lawmakers prepare to leave for a monthlong recess with growing concerns about threats to their safety.
A Sergeant at Arms funding reallocation, presented to House Republicans at a weekly conference meeting Tuesday, will double member allotments under the residential security program account to $20,000. The change also provides $5,000 a month, an increase from $150, for members’ monitoring and maintenance allotments.
