House Panel to Move Air Safety Bill Opposed by Watchdog (1)

A House committee plans to move legislation Thursday that would boost aviation safety in response to a 2025 mid-air collision near Washington despite resistance from the nation’s top transportation accident investigator and the Senate.

The bipartisan ALERT Act (H.R. 7613) proposed by House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chair Sam Graves (R-Mo.) would address dozens of recommendations the National Transportation Safety Board released after the incident that killed 67 people.

The bill does not include a mandate, however, for increased use of safety technology called Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast. The NTSB has said the technology would’ve prevented the 2025 ...
