Legislation allowing Washington police to pursue criminal suspects more easily despite potential dangers to the public won passage in the Republican-led House Wednesday.
The measure (H.R. 5143) is one of several bills the chamber approved this week that would overturn criminal justice policies codified by the City Council as President Donald Trump seeks to undermine home rule in the District of Columbia. Lawmakers voted 245-182 to pass the measure, which follows efforts by Republicans to reverse street safety measures in Democratic-controlled cities.
