House Passes Defense Funding Bill, Advancing Top GOP Priority

House Republicans backed President Donald Trump’s national security priorities in a $831.5 billion annual funding bill for the Defense Department on Friday that would largely keep military spending flat.

House members voted 221-209 to pass their fiscal 2026 Defense appropriations bill (H.R. 4016), by far the largest of the 12 annual spending measures. The legislation includes funds for next-generation fighter aircraft and Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile defense shield.

The vote hewed closely to party lines, with five Democrats joining Republicans in supporting the measure and three Republicans opposing it.
