House Rejects Aviation Safety Bill After Pentagon Flags Concerns

The US House of Representatives voted down a Senate-backed bill that supporters said would improve aviation safety but was opposed by the Defense Department.

The Rotor Act, a bipartisan bill sponsored by Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell, failed to get the two-thirds majority needed to advance in the House.

The measure required a super majority in order to pass under procedures for fast-tracking legislation.
