House Republicans Break Ranks to Challenge Trump Tariff Power

A House Republican plan to curb President Donald Trump’s power to levy broad tariffs is gaining bipartisan support, a sign of widening anxiety on Capitol Hill over the White House’s trade strategy.

A day after Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) introduced the bill, he picked up the support of another Republican: Rep. Jeff Hurd, a freshman from a swing district in Colorado. Also signing onto the measure are Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), the top Democrat on Foreign Affairs, and Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), who is running for governor this fall.
