House Scraps Tougher Energy Efficiency Standards for Appliances

The House on Thursday scuttled stricter energy efficiency standards for walk-in and commercial refrigerators and freezers, the latest target in the GOP’s broad effort to undo several Biden-era clean energy rules.

Lawmakers voted mostly along party lines on two separate Congressional Review Act measures that repeal Energy Department rules finalized during the last administration. One (H.J.Res. 24) imposes tougher efficiency standards for walk-in coolers and freezers; another (H.J.Res. 75) does the same thing for commercial refrigerators and freezers.
