House sidesteps another tax bill vote

The Committee on Rules, created in 1789, sounds like the place that makes you make your bed and eat vegetables.

Which makes it a great venue for House leaders who need to make policy changes with as little hubbub as possible.

So that’s where House Republicans went Tuesday to make alterations to their massive tax and border security bill (H.R. 1) The move within the arcane but critical panel will side-step the headache of another floor fight while deleting provisions that threaten to stall the GOP’s biggest legislative vehicle.
