The House plans to expedite a party-line budget reconciliation bill before fully funding the Department of Homeland Security, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) said Tuesday.
“The Senate is moving starting today on the scaled-down reconciliation bill to focus on ICE and CBP, and we’re going to expedite that when it comes over here,” Scalise told reporters, referencing a budget resolution that takes a step toward funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement and part of Customs and Border Protection. Republicans are pursuing a partisan effort to fund those agencies after reaching a stalemate with Democrats on immigration enforcement changes.
