House Transportation Expected to Weigh Highway Bill Next Month

The House Transportation Committee could take up a draft surface transportation reauthorization within weeks, Chair Sam Graves (R-Mo.) said Thursday.

Most funding for roads, bridges, transit systems, and other transportation infrastructure nationwide depends on the pending legislation, but the recent government shutdown hindered the development of formal language. Current funding authorities through the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act expire Sept. 30.

“We’ll probably mark up the very first part of February,” Graves said about timing on approving formal language. “We’re hoping to have it off the House floor this spring sometime.”
