House’s Absence Adds Rare Twist to Shutdown: Congress Tracker

How long can the House sit this out?

It’s more than a month since House Republicans last came to Washington to vote, despite a government shutdown more than three weeks old.

The House has voted on 12 out of the last 90 days, all between Sept. 2 and 19. That stretch includes the traditional August recess taken by both chambers.

The Senate has voted most weekdays — and has been in session into this morning as Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) held the floor to discuss President Donald Trump’s “grave threats to democracy,” as he posted on X.
