ICE Agents Are Screening Travelers as TSA Staff Issues Grow (1)

The Trump administration has expanded the role of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers at some US airports, moving them from support duties into parts of the passenger screening process as staffing shortages strain the Transportation Security Administration.

ICE officers deployed on Monday were largely assigned to patrol terminals and help manage long lines as TSA staffing thinned. Now, after completing standard TSA training, some are checking passenger identification, guarding entrances and exits, and assisting with other logistics functions, DHS spokeswoman Lauren Bis said in a email on Thursday.
