California Gov. Gavin Newsom is proposing to redirect $50 million that had been dedicated for a long-delayed plant to manufacture the state’s own brand of low-cost insulin for state residents.
The Democratic governor has championed a plan to lower drug prices in part by producing medications at a planned factory in the state, starting with copycat versions of brand-name insulins that would be available at $30 a vial for the more than 3 million Californians with diabetes.
