Intelligence Office Once Riddled With Scandal Faces Trump Return

The Department of Homeland Security’s top intelligence official spent more than two years revamping an office marred by scandal and dysfunction. His work could be reversed in a week’s time.

Under Secretary Ken Wainstein, who leads DHS’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis, says he’s optimistic his successors will embrace the steps he’s taken to insulate the team from politics and bolster internal oversight of its work. But President-elect Donald Trump’s plans for leadership and direction remain an open question at I&A, an under-the-radar office with broad powers to analyze homeland threats and liaise with state and local partners.
