Speaker Mike Johnson, if he is re-elected to his leadership post, will have an easier time keeping his job if the House adopts a rules package that would make it significantly more difficult to oust a speaker.
The threat of a procedural move known as a “motion to vacate” has constantly loomed over Johnson (R-La.) as he’s attempted to wrangle an unwieldy Republican majority since he assumed the top post in 2023.
