Judge Presses DOJ as Fast-Track Immigration Rule Nears Decision

A federal judge plans to move quickly to decide whether the Trump administration can move forward for now with a regulation intended to speed how deportation appeals are handled before the Board of Immigration Appeals.

US District Judge Randolph D. Moss said Friday at a hearing in Washington that he expects to rule before the measure takes effect on Monday on whether the Justice Department can implement the regulation while litigation challenging it proceeds.

A coalition of immigration defense groups filed an emergency motion for the court to postpone the effective date and asked for an order prohibiting enforcement.
