Kansas Republicans Weigh New Map Targeting Lone Democrat Davids

Kansas Republicans, who failed to unseat Rep. Sharice Davids after redrawing her congressional district earlier this decade, may try again to oust the state’s only Democrat in Congress with a more aggressive gerrymander.

State GOP leaders may leverage their legislative super-majorities into calling a special session on redistricting later this fall over the opposition of Democrats including Gov. Laura Kelly.

Davids, a four-term House member who’s on the Agriculture and the Transportation and Infrastructure committees, has assailed a potential redraw just three years after Kansas Republicans revised her 3rd District following the once-per-decade census.
