Kemp Calls Georgia Special Session to Weigh 2028 Redistricting

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) called the state legislature into special session next month to consider revising congressional and state legislative districts for the 2028 election.

The Republican-led legislature, which adjourned in April, will meet beginning June 17 “to consider enacting, revising, repealing, or amending general law” governing Georgia’s political districts, according to Kemp’s proclamation issued Wednesday.

Kemp previously ruled out trying to modify congressional redistricts in time for this year’s election, following a US Supreme Court ruling April 29 that invalidated Louisiana’s congressional map and broadly curtailed race-based redistricting.
