Hard-line conservative Rep. Chip Roy ‘s decision to run for Texas attorney general is set to put his fractured relationship with the man he is trying to replace in the spotlight.

Roy announced his candidacy to replace Ken Paxton, who is battling in a hotly contested primary to unseat Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Thursday morning. The Texan has long been a thorn in Speaker Mike Johnson‘s (R-La.) side and is a leading voice in the hard-right Freedom Caucus.
