Shutdown Vote Creates Odd Bedfellows, Reveals Lawmaker Motives

Democratic appropriators, Republicans running for governor and lawmakers locked in tight re-elections were among those bucking their parties as the House Tuesday cleared funding legislation to reopen the federal government.

The House vote, 217-214, wasn’t as strictly party-line as others have been in the tightly divided chamber. Twenty-one Democrats supported the measure (H.R. 7148), while on the GOP side 21 opposed the bill favored by President Donald Trump.
